Birthday Girl’s new single, ‘I’m Not Safe’ is designed to throw you off-balance with its wobbly surrealism. Throughout the entire track, we are hit with instruments and vocals that flitter and flutter with psychedelic intensity, creating an almost multi-sensory experience. They’re able to convincingly craft a soundscape that feels like you’re being thrown into a nostalgic steampunk era just as much as it does a horror film. “We just tried to throw in all of our combined mental issues and into something that’s a bit unsettling but you can still put on at a party,” they explain. “A guitar banger, which is apparently quite a rare treat these days.” The band are heading out on a European tour towards the end of 2021. -Dan Peeke
